Please accept my apologies for a severe non function from the stories section, the plan is to at least keep a 2 month type update. It's my privilege to be your instructor and see you all grow into drummers. Well done Courtney, Sean, Noah and Tanner on there recent performances and everyone else on there way.

The Drum School has seen many of my students starting to perform and show prowess with their dedication to practice. Would love to see any old friends who can make it along. Checkout for European dates and locations.

One of there most well known tunes is 'In A Gadda Da Vida' featuring the 10 minute drum solo. Taking in France, Holland Belgium, Germany, Austria, Check Repupulic, Slovakia, Switzerland and Italy. This has led to the upcoming European 2010 tour. I was asked by keyboard player singer friend Martin Gerschwitz if I could step in for regular drummer Ron Bushy. This summer was also eventful with live work with the legendary Iron Butterfly. Please check it out and give me your thoughts in the guestbook. I'm excited about it and if any would like to check it out go into the website at and listen before ordering if you would like to purchase.ġ4 songs in total, 2 more than we had planned. The record was finished and mastered at Capitol Records in North Hollywood Los Angeles.
#CLANDESTINY NOW DRUM UPDATE#
I just want to give you an update on recent activity.Įarlier in the year I was asked to produce (as well as drum) a CD for new pop artist Chris Amodeo a talented singer/songwriter. This section is where I can share some of those experiences with you. I get drum patterns and iconic beats stuck in my head all the time.īrann is the weirdest drummer in metal, therefor listen to the song you want to learn CONSTANTLY, play along to the song very often and note your improvement over time.I travel a LOT and see a lot of interesting things around the world. This applies to Mastodon particular well but obviously works well, especially in metal. It’s hard for me to explain, but the weird way Brann uses his bass drums and fill during the “cheIt’s a fun groove that showcases Brann’s fast right foot. Last but not least, get the drum part stuck in your head.

I would slow down those particular parts and try to replicate the fills by ear - Brann’s live performances vary so I tend to stick to my ear.

If I were to take a deep dive on this song in particular, I’d struggle with the timing during the section with Brent’s harsh* vocals. Siberian Divide is such a particularly challenging song on drums, especially with those long fills so unique to Brann’s style. This worked for Mastodon because the drumming is so frenetic and hard to predict that I had to listen to the song without drumming to hear my inaccuracies. Visualize the drums in your mind and the better you learn the song in general, it kinda translates to the overall learning process before you even pick up your sticks. I always noticed myself improving every time I start the routine again, and that day off seemed to help me notice these incremental improvements.Īdditionally, I found that I could learn songs just by listening to them…a lot. For me personally, I would practice Mastodon songs for 2-3 days then take a day off.
